HISTORY Joe B. Long, his wife Donna and Claude Hays originally established Longhorn Title Company, Inc. in Georgetown on February 22, 1972. The company's first office was located at 711 Main; four employees performed the work. In 1978, the company purchased the historical Dimmitt Building at 801 Main, allowing the company to grow as well as maintain a location on the square. In 1983 Joe Long sold his ownership percentage to Southern Title, which is now Fidelity National Title. In 1997 Fidelity sold their portion of Longhorn Title to Judy Ballard, Mike Cumberland, and David Hays, making Longhorn Title one of a small number of independently home owned and operated title companies. As demand for title services increased throughout the county, Longhorn Title has increased its offices. We are proud of the fact that our employees have combined experience in the Real Estate/Title Insurance industry of over 150+ years. The buildings that house the title offices located on Main Street in their respective communities-have interesting pasts of their own. The Dimmitt Building, with its commanding presence on the southeast corner of the Georgetown Square, was built in 1901 by P.H. Dimmitt and Co., intended for use as a hotel. However, it functioned instead as a mercantile store as well as a meeting place for families and friends from the Williamson County community. Later uses included Georgetown¹s first movie house, an automobile agency, a drug store, a dental office and a bus depot. Georgetown Savings and Loan Association remodeled the building in 1960. The restoration preserved that native stone Spanish arches, columns, and turrets. In 1965 the building was officially recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark. This building now functions as the headquarters for Longhorn Title Company, Inc. The historic building, located on Main Street in Taylor, has its own interesting past. House Jewelers, occupants of the building for many years, kept its valuables in a safe located inside a solid masonry room. Longhorn Title has conducted business in that office since 1997. Local ownership allows for active interest in and support of the local communities. As a good neighbor in the business community, Longhorn Title Company, Inc. is involved in the Chamber of Commerce organizations in each of the towns where an office is maintained. Numerous local civic and school organizations receive support from Longhorn Title Company, Inc. |
